[ she so desperately wants to sleep, but sleep only brings dreams and images she wants to forget. so she is unfortunately very much awake by the time Rose rushes over, knocking on the door in a manner that makes Furina practically jump out of her own skin.
it's okay. it's okay. it's just Rose. it's just Rose.
her heart hammers in her chest, her pulse thundering in her hearts. gently holding onto the pact that binds them in an effort to calm herself down if only a little. it's Rose, she's here because she's worried. because Furina had been missing and now she isn't. it takes longer than Furina would like to finally summon up the courage to open the door, her hair (notably long at the moment) a frayed mess but clean. blessedly clean. ]
Rose? [ she takes a breath in before launching herself at the woman, wrapping her arms around her as she tries to hold in a sob. ]
[There’s a part of Rose that’s holding onto a small hope. A hope that nothing happened at all, and she’s worrying for nothing.]
[That hope is dashed the moment Furina opens the door. Rose doesn’t have to ask; she knows. When Furina wraps her arms around her Rose returns the hug as tightly as she can.]
[She was supposed to be a champion duelist! What wasn’t she there?]
It’s okay. You can let it out. Don’t—-[don’t be like me]—-don’t feel like you have to hold it in.
[ Rose returns the hug and the dam gates burst open, hot tears pouring from her eyes as she sobs against her friend, her champion. simply seeing her again, feeling her warmth, is just so much. ]
I thought─ [ she was going to die. that she would watch everyone else around her die. that's she'd be alone just as the prophecy foretold. ] Rose I was so scared I─
[Rose is calm. She knows. She knows acutely what Furina is talking about. Even a year later, Rose can remember what it’s like to go from being living to being dead. She remembers what it’s like to be afraid you won’t come back.]
[Only for a moment, Rose breaks the hug.]
Why don’t we get you back inside? I can make some tea for us.
[ she hasn't the strength to fight, nor to push Rose away. so she doesn't. she steps back and walks back inside, returning to the collection blankets on the couch she had all been wrapped up in prior to Rose's arrival. ]
[As far as Rose is concerned, she’s never been gifted when it comes to comforting people.]
[But she’s going to do her best.]
[True to her word, as soon as the tea is done, Rose is on the couch beside Furina. She places a hot cup in front of her before wrapping Furina up in another hug.]
You’re safe now. I know—-
[Rose suffered. She bottled it up for too long. She doesn’t want her friend to do the same.]
I know it might not feel that way. I know it’s hard to sleep, and when you do there are night terrors. But whatever you saw there can’t get you here.
