[ war was waged that evening, a bar having been a host of many people from the zodiac app. True to his word, Wriothesley spends a good chunk of his hard-earned Sidequest Money to make sure everyone's had their fill of drinks and snacks--and once Josuke's dropped he and Furina off at the end of the driveway leading up to Neuvillette's too-fancy apartment complex, he takes a moment to look at ... The Hyrdo Archon.
No, at Furina.
He wasn't present at the opera epiclise, he has no idea the fate of the seat of the hydro archon furthur than what Zhongli mentioned; but now she stands here--no, Leans here, against his side, pink-faced and looking. Happy? He'd hoped she was happy. ]
You able to walk, or should I put you up on my shoulders.
[ despite all the snacks and the water, the evening's adventure left furina completely and utterly inebriated - it's understandable given the fact that during her five hundred year performance, she never really consumed much in the way of alcohol. it left her feeling light and fuzzy, a pleasant warmth flowing through her arms and legs.
it is no wonder she never really drank this much before. if she had there would have been no way she could have kept up the mask for as long as she did. not that she cares much about that anymore, not with the alcohol coursing through her bloodstream. ]
Hmm? [ oh, right. she's leaning on the duke, isn't she? furina hums, lazily rolling her head around toward him. ] My dear Duke, I think should I let go of you and even one step forward I will fall face first onto our dear Iudex's driveway.
[ the thought brings a smile to her lips and a soft laugh. ]
Maybe... maybe it would be for the best that you carry me. [ she has no desire to detach herself from him at this moment. ] Just like you carried me from the labyrinth.
[ alive isn't exactly the word she would use, if she was being honest. she is better now than she was when she first woke, of course, but she cannot honestly call herself alive. ]
I am still breathing, if that is what we are going to classify as alive. I have spent most of the day in bed nursing a pain most foul.
[He is texting this instead of coming to talk to her even if they're literally in the same house because of Reasons he is trying very hard not to think about.]
[ He stands outside Furina's bedroom door. Dressed in an outfit a little different than his usual, he's holding a single blue rose.
He'd considered many times--trying to find a job that would keep him less itchy-footed and restless, but. He was far more content with the odd vacation. Being a homebody wasn't so bad--and he often went for long walks out into the city. He was most comfortable, however, when spending time at home with ...
When did that change? When had he gotten so used to living with others? If this truly was a strange dream he'd one day wake from, he'll laugh at himself, one day. But today, he stands outside Furina's bedroom, and finally, he gets the gumption to knock. ]
Hey, Sleeping Beauty. You sleeping in again? It's already 10am, you know.
[ sleeping in again? look, just because she sleeps in until roughly this time every day doesn't mean she's sleeping in! she went to bed early last night! sure, early was roughly around three am but that means nothing!
but yes, she was most definitely asleep and still in bed when the sound of his knock echoes throughout the room followed quickly by his voice. furina groans, curling in on herself. it is tempting to simply pull the blankets around herself even further, drift back into the land of dreams rather than awaken fully. ]
One... moment... [ fine, fine! another groan and she pulls herself out of bed, hair practically sticking this way and that as she shuffles her way over to the door. were it anyone else she might have panicked and scrambled to get dressed, but it is wriothesley and she... well she's found herself comfortable enough around him not to worry about such things.
thus does furina de fontaine, fontaine's brightest star, open her bedroom door in nothing more than a large t-shirt that hangs off one shoulder and a pair of track pants rubbing one eye in an attempt to clean the sleep from it. ]
Wrio- Huh? [ that's a new outfit and is that... a rose? ] What's all this?
[Takame was not one to pry, he had no reason to. He understood people's need for privacy and Furina seemed the sort to grow anxious easily. But it was precisely that reason and the fact she really seemed to come into herself more in performance that her recent absence was concerning enough for Takame to reach out.]
Furina? 'Tis Kesi Takame. Is everything alright? You've not been to the Vogue in some few days.
[ it's surprises her when alert noise rings out in her room, even more surprising when she reaches over and peers at the screen to see who it that messaged her. there was a part of her that wanted little more than to put the phone down and bury herself in blankets, block out the rest of the world for just one more day but... ]
Takame. Yes, yes, I am quite alright I caught a cold that is all. Fontaine does not often get snows you see and I was not prepared for it, haha. No reason to worry. Please send my apologies to Zulius.
[When Furina does show up at work, Rose is worried. When she doesn’t hear from her at all for several days, Rose is worried. As far as Rose is concerned they’ve become somewhat close, and Rose has had two people close to her fall into a deep sleep in the past month.]
[Furina strikes Venti as the type to have said whether she's taking time off, but she hasn't and that's worried him honestly. So, he sends her a text to check up on her.]
My prima diva! I didn't see you at the Vogue yesterday, so I thought I'd ask if everything's okay?
[ is everything okay? how can anything be okay when divinity sinks back into your bones? when there is a weight on your chest and you feel as though you're drowning? ]
Everything is fine, I'm sorry for worrying you my dear bard. I have simply fallen ill with a cold.
[ maybe he won't believe her, but she will keep up the front until it breaks. ]
[Zulius is used to his staff occasionally going missing. Insane stuff happens all the time here and sometimes they have a mental breakdown or they get stuck in a lamp or any other number of things to keep them from their routine. He never faults them for it.
But by god, does he get worried. Because, end of the day, they're his family if they like it or not and he likes to know they're at least not dead.]
Hey Sweetie. I haven't seen you at work for a while- is everything okay? Did something happen? You need to send me a care package anywhere? I send KILLER care packages.
[ they have not spoken in a while so she cannot help the surprise that colors her voice. there is notable exhaustion as well due to the lack of sleep before. ]
No, no you're not interrupting. [ the timing feels too perfect, does he already know? did he sense the return of her divinity during the night? ] I am... I am alright.
[ you know how usually wriothesley wakes you up most mornings with breakfast and tea, rousing you out of your lazy slumber so you don't waste the entire day away by just staying in bed?
yeah it should be like that this morning too.
but instead of the usual knock and quip of 'time to get up, lazybones' or something of the like there's.
[ she has gotten so used to wriothesley waking her up in the morning, used to the smell of freshly cooked breakfast and a cup of tea. she has gotten used to his voice coming from the other side of her door rousing her from her sleep that it is... startling when she doesn't hear it.
but scratching.
loud incessant scratching.
followed by a thump.
groggily furina climbs out of bed, clothes disheveled and her hair a mess, and pads over to the door. she is mid yawn when she opens it expecting to see wriothesley standing on the other side-- ]
Wriothesley? Has something--
[ hang on a second, where is he? normally he is right there holding out a tray with her breakfast waiting expectantly for her and now he isn't. ]
[ in all honesty furina had immediately closed the app the moment she saw the prophecy post and did he best not to succumb to a panic attack, it is still something of a sore subject after all and she has yet to overcome the fear prophecies put in her. she would have been happy to ignore her phone for the rest of day, were it not for the particular ringtone that signified that rose had texted her.
never in a million years would she think of ignoring rose reaching out. she unburies herself for her blankets, pulling her phone from the bedside table into her nest. ]
Yes, I'm alright. [ well... physically she is. ] Mayhaps a little tired... I stayed awake longer than I should have reading.
[So it turns out that being kidnapped and sent into a realm made of all of your worst feelings about yourself? Not a fun time.]
[It takes Rose a few days to approach anything even remotely close to normal again. When she does, she reaches out to Furina. Rose isn’t sure what Furina saw in her dungeon, but she can only hope the other girl doesn’t think less of her for it.]
[Edward doesn't usually send Furina pictures of what he's set at her statue as an offering. It's usually the same thing: a basket of chocolates, baked goods, and a scrumptious homemade dish, courtesy of Bonnet the chef rat, wrapped tightly up to keep the seagulls from getting to it.
Today's offering is a bit different and, surprisingly, doesn't come with Edward jumping off the very top of her head. There are the ever-present chocolates and baked goods, of course, but there's also a...burger? With a skull-and-crossbones paper flag stuck in the top?]
It's been a rough couple of weeks for all of us, so I thought this might amuse you. The burger's from a restaurant that alleges to be pirate-themed.
It's terrible. The music is from this century, the costumes are from Party City, and when the waiters speak they fall into the trap of assuming we all sounded like we came right out of Bristol. It's so awful it somehow crosses a line into hilarious.
[ to say that she is surprised to receive the text is an understatement. normally she knows exactly when Edward has left a blessing by the pressure on the top of her head suddenly lifting once the man leaps off the top of her statue, but today? today is different.
she is almost worried.
thus does she make her way to her statue to collect the offering, taking a moment to inspect the burger then the chocolates and baked goods. offering most definitely accepted. it is only after consuming the burger that she pulls out her phone and sends Edward a reply: ]
The burger was pleasant at least, thank you.
Perhaps you can take me with you next time, the way you speak of it makes me want to see for myself. Such things are always more enjoyable with friends, aren't they? [ friend, yes she did just say that. ] Speaking of music, I want to start preforming again and I can think of no better stage than the Vogue.
I hope I will see you there when I do. Maybe my songs will soothe the pain that pirate-themed music inflicted upon you.
[At some point during the fortress raid, Furina will be getting a call from Rose. Her and Wriothesley have long since fled from the battle with Cu. It's rough going, but they're both alive. Even if not unharmed, there's no lasting damage, at least none that Rose can see.]
[She imagines Furina's worried about Wrio. Rose knows that she's worried about Veldora, and Veldora wasn't one of the ones who was fighting against the mad dog. If nothing else, she can at least assuage her friend's fears. She doesn't need to know the specifics, Furina doesn't need to know how Wrio was willing to use himself as a human shield.]
[ of course she is worried. she knew they were going to fight one of the Order's minions, she knew it was going to be dangerous and there was a chance they would get hurt. what she didn't expect was just how bad it could have been.
she can feel the injuries he suffered through their pact and it only serves to further fuel her worries. ]
[ she was worried, of course. through the pact she can feel when either Rose or Wriothesley get hurt and with everything going on, well... she worried about them. so the moment her phone makes a noise she practically jumps to pick it up. ]
You're back! I'm so glad you're okay, I was so worried for a while there. Do you need anything?
[It’s strange, having a once-godkiller form a pact with a god, but nonetheless Rose is thankful. She trusts Furina as much as she’s ever trusted anyone else, and having a link with her friends brings her comfort. Rose has lost so many people. She doesn’t want to lose anyone else.]
[Which makes it all the more upsetting that she didn’t realize it was missing until the pact hits her with full force again.]
[It’s fine. If she can feel Furina, it’s fine.]
[But is it? Memories of last year float into her mind. Of the cabin. Of everyone not knowing that people were missing until they came back. Memories of her dying trying to save Zulius.]
[Rose always downplayed what happen because she didn’t want to worry anyone. If there was even a chance that Furina went through something similar, she needed to be there.]
[It takes her no time at all to rush over. She knocks on the door, as frantic as she’s ever been. No, she’s overreacting. Please say she’s overreacting.]
[ she so desperately wants to sleep, but sleep only brings dreams and images she wants to forget. so she is unfortunately very much awake by the time Rose rushes over, knocking on the door in a manner that makes Furina practically jump out of her own skin.
it's okay. it's okay. it's just Rose. it's just Rose.
her heart hammers in her chest, her pulse thundering in her hearts. gently holding onto the pact that binds them in an effort to calm herself down if only a little. it's Rose, she's here because she's worried. because Furina had been missing and now she isn't. it takes longer than Furina would like to finally summon up the courage to open the door, her hair (notably long at the moment) a frayed mess but clean. blessedly clean. ]
Rose? [ she takes a breath in before launching herself at the woman, wrapping her arms around her as she tries to hold in a sob. ]
[ in part, he goes because he needs to not be in his house.
usually there's nowhere he's more comfortable than his little cottage, surrounded by all its growing things and the gaggle of beasts and people that fill every little inch of it, but the ghosts in Vash's eyes and the strain in Dante's shoulders (not to mention the hurt that Eve's hiding or the fact that Kni's off doing god knows what) just... weighs on him
it's as heavy as his own stupid, dead body and he needs to put the load down for just a little while
and then his mind gets caught up on the one... big bit of misbehavior that he still feels sore for, and it's probably dumb and reckless, but maybe Wolfwood feels like he needs to
like he needs to
(suffer) (pay for something) apologize.
so he follows a few collections of half-remembered conversations and a bit of careful network spying until he's on the elevator to the fortress of Meropide, looking for Vash's little fancy coworker with his hands in his pockets and his shirt buttoned a little higher than usual. ]
[ of all the places to run into him, Meropide was not at all on her list.
in fact that was the very reason Furina had been so insistent on staying in Meropide after returning to Kaisou. she just... needed some time. time to bury the memory of those events down deep, time to rest and breathe and not think about any of it. seeing him too soon would only drag all of that back up to the surface and reminding her of her own uselessness─ which is exactly what happens as she steps off the elevator to Wriothesley's office and spies him across the way.
her breath catches in her throat as the urge to turn around and flee back up to the Duke's office takes hold. visions of his face contorted in anger not meant for her, the shock that overtook mere moments later as he desperately tries to stop blood from pouring out.
[ the fortress was his domain. its where he spent most of his life, where he became the man he is today--where he grew up and grew kind, instead of cold. and with it being transported to this world alongside him, it was still his duty to protect it, and the growing community down there.
However, it was not his home. Even now, that odd little magic spell that always brought him 'Home' had never changed--it always brought him here. To Neuvillette's overly fancy, high-rise apartment that was warm and welcoming, settled to be more than just the place the dragon man slept and worked. It was the home of Furina and Wriothesley now too.
The latter had spent the last few hours making sure the heartless were well and gone from the fortress, telling Furina he'd be back before the night was through once he'd figured out everything and made sure he could safely leave it in the hands of the others.
When he'd come home--he found her asleep. Flaked out on her bed--likely exhausted from aiding him in the fortress as well--and he takes the minute to get a quick shower. He'd hoped that the sound of the water and such might rouse her--but when he comes back to her room, wearing just his pajama slacks and a tank top--she's still sleeping.
...She looked cute, at least. And maybe he can't help himself when he enters the room to slide into bed next to her, hands gently pulling her in against him as his fingers reach to feel for pins and ties in her hair. Had she fallen asleep without getting fully undressed? How tired had she been?
... Ha. For an Archon, she really was just a regular person too, wasn't she? ]
[ she had intended to remain awake until Wriothesley found his way home, but... maybe she has been working herself just a little too hard lately. between her job at the Vogue and helping out around the fortress there is barely a moment where Furina doesn't find herself busy. the heartless invasion only served to eliminate what little free time she had left. so it is no surprise that she all but collapsed the moment her body hit the soft mattress of her bed.
it isn't her fault she fell for the siren song of sleep!!
not that it matters anymore, the shift of Wriothesley's weight on the bed enough to pull her from the depths of sleep far more effectively than the sound of running water. she murmurs quietly as she is pulled in against him, sluggishly rolling over to nuzzle into his chest as his fingers card through her hair. ]
You're back... [ he will find the pins keeping her hair secured to her hair mostly in place, tugging almost uncomfortably against her hair after she shifted to curl against him. ] Welcome home, mon loup.
[After giving Harumasa a lift to the ER, Belle texts Furina:]
hey. This is Belle. I was the one piloting one of the two Bangboo, the one with the scarf? We had a livestream going, so I saw how you helped Harumasa.
[ Furina's response doesn't come straight away, having all but exhausted herself during the whole endeavour, but eventually she wakes and sees the message. ]
There is no need to thank me, really. I did as anyone ought to have done in such an emergency. Besides, Harumasa has chosen to live within the walls of Meropide and as such he is, in part, under my care.
[ both as the woman dating the Duke of Meropide and as the God of Hydro herself. ]
[ this is a surprise, though not at all an unpleasant one. ]
Nonsense, of course I did. Ragna is a dear friend, despite how much he may protest against it, and he saved my life some months ago. [ there is a heavy pause as Furina pushes those memories away. ] I wanted to do for him what he had done for me.
[He won't deny, he's a little nervous since they've been a bit awkward since the peach incident. But Ash's idea was a good idea, and maybe it'll be one they can use to get past that awkwardness.]
Lady Furina?
It's Jun. Sorry to bother you, but there was something I wanted to ask you.
No, it's an angry Pomeranian standing at the archon statue in the bay, pouring out... a water bottle? -- It's Aquafina. It was on sale. He got it free with a bag of chips. -- out onto the bottom of that statue.
Its an offering??? Probably??????]
Oi.
[Is this a moment of growth and reflection???]
Get your damn seals to leave me alone. I can't beat them up without people bitching about animal cruelty.
[ lucky for the angry pomeranian the goddess of whom that statue belongs is on her way back to the fortress as he does this with a couple of Melusine walking alongside her. people leaving offerings isn't a strange occurrence these days, Edward does it often as does many of the men and women within the harbor that work upon the waters.
but this one is different. this one kicked her statue on his first day within the city, turning all the seals and blubberbeasts and many of the others creatures within the harbor's waters against him. a just reward, really, and kinder than what the Duke would have done.
it's one of the Melusine, Flo, who alerts her to the same blonde haired boy pouring water (water, really? does this child know nothing of how to present offerings to a god?) upon her statue. what luck! she had been meaning to talk to this foolish child, what better time than now. ]
That is not how this works and no, I cannot simply get them to leave you alone. You slighted the seals with your actions, you must make the amends.
[ she's dressed considerably different from her statue, but hey... here's the goddess. ]
"The Spring Season is a time for stripping away the expensive commercialism of Winter to bloom new life and appreciation in the new year. Yet some wish to find profit even in a time of reflection.
In stealing the sins of the season, Mockingbird sends its warm regards."
[Inside the egg you will find 15 packages of Caramel Pudding Kit-Kats. How Lucky!]
[Should you try to report these in any way, all signs will point to the local Blockbuster.]
4th December, Late Night
No, at Furina.
He wasn't present at the opera epiclise, he has no idea the fate of the seat of the hydro archon furthur than what Zhongli mentioned; but now she stands here--no, Leans here, against his side, pink-faced and looking. Happy? He'd hoped she was happy. ]

I still got some 'Grace' in me.

she is almost worried.
thus does she make her way to her statue to collect the offering, taking a moment to inspect the burger then the chocolates and baked goods. offering most definitely accepted. it is only after consuming the burger that she pulls out her phone and sends Edward a reply: ]

Furina, are you there? It's Rose.

Rose?! Are you okay? Are you safe? Is it over?

[Physically, anyway.]
[Mentally, she’s doing what she can.]
Furina, it’s me. We’re back.

You're back! I'm so glad you're okay, I was so worried for a while there. Do you need anything?

after the events!
Furina! Are you there?
no subject
it's okay. it's okay. it's just Rose. it's just Rose.
her heart hammers in her chest, her pulse thundering in her hearts. gently holding onto the pact that binds them in an effort to calm herself down if only a little. it's Rose, she's here because she's worried. because Furina had been missing and now she isn't. it takes longer than Furina would like to finally summon up the courage to open the door, her hair (notably long at the moment) a frayed mess but clean. blessedly clean. ]
Rose? [ she takes a breath in before launching herself at the woman, wrapping her arms around her as she tries to hold in a sob. ]

action; after the Event Horizon
usually there's nowhere he's more comfortable than his little cottage, surrounded by all its growing things and the gaggle of beasts and people that fill every little inch of it, but the ghosts in Vash's eyes and the strain in Dante's shoulders (not to mention the hurt that Eve's hiding or the fact that Kni's off doing god knows what) just... weighs on him
it's as heavy as his own stupid, dead body and he needs to put the load down for just a little while
and then his mind gets caught up on the one... big bit of misbehavior that he still feels sore for, and it's probably dumb and reckless, but maybe Wolfwood feels like he needs to
like he needs to
(
suffer)(
pay for something)apologize.
so he follows a few collections of half-remembered conversations and a bit of careful network spying until he's on the elevator to the fortress of Meropide, looking for Vash's little fancy coworker with his hands in his pockets and his shirt buttoned a little higher than usual. ]
no subject
in fact that was the very reason Furina had been so insistent on staying in Meropide after returning to Kaisou. she just... needed some time. time to bury the memory of those events down deep, time to rest and breathe and not think about any of it. seeing him too soon would only drag all of that back up to the surface and reminding her of her own uselessness─ which is exactly what happens as she steps off the elevator to Wriothesley's office and spies him across the way.
her breath catches in her throat as the urge to turn around and flee back up to the Duke's office takes hold. visions of his face contorted in anger not meant for her, the shock that overtook mere moments later as he desperately tries to stop blood from pouring out.
but she doesn't run. she can't.
her feet remain frozen in place. ]

the day after the Heartless have retreated the city
no subject
it isn't her fault she fell for the siren song of sleep!!
not that it matters anymore, the shift of Wriothesley's weight on the bed enough to pull her from the depths of sleep far more effectively than the sound of running water. she murmurs quietly as she is pulled in against him, sluggishly rolling over to nuzzle into his chest as his fingers card through her hair. ]
You're back... [ he will find the pins keeping her hair secured to her hair mostly in place, tugging almost uncomfortably against her hair after she shifted to curl against him. ] Welcome home, mon loup.

post-ragna log; text, un: belleoftheboulevard
hey. This is Belle. I was the one piloting one of the two Bangboo, the one with the scarf? We had a livestream going, so I saw how you helped Harumasa.
Thanks. Really. He's a good friend of mine.
no subject
There is no need to thank me, really. I did as anyone ought to have done in such an emergency. Besides, Harumasa has chosen to live within the walls of Meropide and as such he is, in part, under my care.
[ both as the woman dating the Duke of Meropide and as the God of Hydro herself. ]

Nonsense, of course I did. Ragna is a dear friend, despite how much he may protest against it, and he saved my life some months ago. [ there is a heavy pause as Furina pushes those memories away. ] I wanted to do for him what he had done for me.

Lady Furina?
It's Jun. Sorry to bother you, but there was something I wanted to ask you.
text | UN: Thorn (no rush on this!)
[She doesn't know what to say, not at all.]
[She doesn't want to talk about it.]
[But she knows she has to, so she sends Furina a text message:]
How are things on your end?
action; 3/2
No, it's an angry Pomeranian standing at the archon statue in the bay, pouring out... a water bottle? -- It's Aquafina. It was on sale. He got it free with a bag of chips. -- out onto the bottom of that statue.
Its an offering??? Probably??????]
Oi.
[Is this a moment of growth and reflection???]
Get your damn seals to leave me alone. I can't beat them up without people bitching about animal cruelty.
[... never mind. Drown him.]
no subject
but this one is different. this one kicked her statue on his first day within the city, turning all the seals and blubberbeasts and many of the others creatures within the harbor's waters against him. a just reward, really, and kinder than what the Duke would have done.
it's one of the Melusine, Flo, who alerts her to the same blonde haired boy pouring water (water, really? does this child know nothing of how to present offerings to a god?) upon her statue. what luck! she had been meaning to talk to this foolish child, what better time than now. ]
That is not how this works and no, I cannot simply get them to leave you alone. You slighted the seals with your actions, you must make the amends.
[ she's dressed considerably different from her statue, but hey... here's the goddess. ]
